From Did Not Start (DNS) to Do It Yourself (DIY) 200-Miler

1/1/2021

.

This time last year I was scheduled to run/walk/crawl the Across The Years 200-Miler. It was going to be my first attempt at this distance and I was looking forward to seeing what was possible within me and also being around other people who also like to challenge themselves. About 3 hours before my flight though, I cancelled. I cancelled on my friends Maria and Eric and I cancelled on me. To say I was ashamed is an understatement.

.

I had some personal issues that I was going through at the time and knew that escaping for 6 days was only going to make matters worse. I had to throw out the yellow flag!

.

The good thing about staying put was that with the help of my therapist, Melissa, I was able to feel those uncomfortable feelings that I wanted to sweep under a rug and also get to the bottom of why I was feeling that way to begin with. My therapist is an expert in reprogramming my sometimes faulty operating system. Another good thing about staying put and not "running" from my problems was that it made me hungrier to come back and do the race in 2021.

.

So, when the race was cancelled in the fall of 2020, I knew I was still going to do it on my own. I had to. I wanted to. So I am!

.

I could not think of a better way to say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021. Doing something that I have never done before that I am beyond #SCITED about. This will push me mentally, physically and spiritually which is exactly why I sign up for these crazy adventures. It's definitely not for the belt buckle. I don't even wear them : )
