Race Review-2022 Antelope Canyon 50 Miler
2022 Antelope Canyon 50 Mile Ultra 3/12/2022 Holy Schnikeys! That is how I would describe not just the views on the Antelope Canyon Ultra but also the challenging terrain we traversed throughout 51 miles. And yes, this was a 50-mile ultramarathon that was actually 51 miles! (Thankfully, we knew about this extra mile well before we even crossed the start line as it was denoted in the athlete’s race guide and the race website.) There were 3 variables that made this course ube

Race Review-2022 Mesa Marathon
2022 Mesa Marathon-My 130th Marathon/Ultra 2/12/2022 I ❤️ the Mesa Marathon! . This was the first time I ran it and I will be back next year! . This is why: . ✅We start at 630 AM so we need to be bussed up to the corrals by 430 AM. So once you get there it’s cold out.…BOOM, there are oodles of heaters lined up for all of us runners. Not to mention our bag with our race bib had a Mylar blanket and throw away gloves in it #bonus . ✅The start area also had a ton of porta potties

Race Review-2021/2022 Across the Years 100-Miler
Happy Old 2021 and New 2022! 12/31/2021 #FlashBackFriday and I am taking it back to this time last week when I attempted the Across the Years 100 Miler. This was my first time doing this race and first time doing a 1 mile-ish loop over and over for the whole 100 miles. (We did switch directions every 6 hours though) I didn't know if my body and mind could handle that but to my surprise, I really liked it. Not just because I couldn't get lost but I think because I was able to

From DNS to DIY to DNFY 200-Miler
1/5/2021 When I first signed up for Across the Years, I had a strategy of run/walking 50 miles each day. You have 4 days to complete the distance. I figured I could conservatively do the 50 miles and then switch my energy to recovery: ice bath, Tailwind Rebuild, a real meal, a shower and then sleep. This would prepare me for the next day's 50-miler, The thing with ultras that I have learned is that they aren't just a race but they are essentially a training run too. In a m

From Did Not Start (DNS) to Do It Yourself (DIY) 200-Miler
1/1/2021 . This time last year I was scheduled to run/walk/crawl the Across The Years 200-Miler. It was going to be my first attempt at this distance and I was looking forward to seeing what was possible within me and also being around other people who also like to challenge themselves. About 3 hours before my flight though, I cancelled. I cancelled on my friends Maria and Eric and I cancelled on me. To say I was ashamed is an understatement. . I had some personal issues that

Race Review-McDowell Mountain Frenzy 50-Miler
Coyote, Cell Towers and UTMB Points, Oh My! 12/6/2020 I have a bad habit of not reading race websites thoroughly before a race and just reviewing them to see if they are still open for registration and my calendar is open to participate. This has gotten me into trouble before. Well it's at least made the race a little more surprising than I thought. I did skim the site but I had no basis of reference to any of the trail routes since I am not a local and come from the flatla
